Converting MPEG-2 to AVI

Although we have converted video from hard drive and DVD camcorders (MPEG-2 video format) with some success, the fact that the footage on these devices is highly compressed the use of MiniDV Camcorders to obtain best image quality is recommended.

The conversion process may seem daunting but there are a number of companies now offering very good software that does make the process of converting video a simple one. Here we offer a summary to converting video from a hard drive camcorder to a format that can be used with motionexpert using video2X software. Please note that motionexpert does not offer support for video2X software - for more information on this product please contact them here.

  • Copy your captured video footage on to your computer hard drive (in a known folder)
  • Under 'Mode' click 'Convert Video'
  • Under 'Output Format' click 'AVI'
  • Under output directory browse to a folder on your computer where you want your converted video file to be stored
  • Click 'Add Video' and browse to the video that was copied from your camcorder.*
  • Click 'Convert Now'

Thats it! You should be able to 'open' the converted video in motionexpert and use all of the tools that motionexpert has to offer.

*Note: If the converted video is greater than 7 seconds in length, playback on some computers may appear jerky. If this is the case simply use the trim tool within motionexpert itself and trim the video clip to ensure a smooth picture.
